I have the honour to adknowledge the
receipt of Your Excellenay's despatah Number 81
of October 3rd concerning the desire of your Gov-
ernment to see the rehabilitation or the Chinese
section of the Canton-Kowloon Railway, and to con-
fâm your understanding that I have received in-
structions to take an opportunity of calling the
attention of the Chinese Government to this point.
It occurs to me however that a general expression of the interest of Your Axoellency's
Government in this seastion of the Railway, is un-
likely to receive such attention at the prevent
moment in view of the fact that all the main trunk
lines of the Chinese Railways are urgently in need
of reconditioning.
